I am celebrating a Twitter #SBS Success! SBS Winner Cookie

When I am talking with new social media clients, I am careful not to quantify what can be achieved on their accounts.

Anyone managing social media for clients knows it is not wise to make hard and fast promises, as results are often hard to predict in a quantifiable way.

But what I do say is that I will work hard to raise their profile. I will seek to get increased exposure for their business online. I will make connections and build online relationships, attracting potential customers to their website, or interesting them enough to pick up the phone.

I manage my clients’ expectations, and then set out to exceed them!

This week my wonderful client, Custom Cookie Co, has caught the eye of Dragons’ Den’s Theo Paphitis, and he has made them a Small Business Sunday #SBS Winner.

A number of people have asked me what this is all about, but first, let me tell you about Custom Cookie Co.

Alli Cardona has a background in the food industry, and started her customised cookie business from her kitchen table just 4 years ago. Now operating from a small bakery in Hindhead, Surrey, she has a well trained team, hand crafting and decorating cookies to order.

Alli’s client list for corporate gifts and brand promotions includes household name companies such as Vodafone, Virgin Atlantic, Vax, Churchill Insurance and many, many more.

Custom Cookie Co regularly supplies big stores such as Harrods, Harvey Nichols and Selfridges with gift boxes for launches and seasonal celebrations, particularly at Easter and Christmas.

As well as these high profile clients, Custom Cookie Co has many loyal small customers ordering gift boxes or individual cookies for every kind of personal celebration such as birthdays, engagements, weddings, graduations, new baby arrivals and for get well messages too.

If you can think of an occasion, Alli can customise a cookie specifically to your requirements.

As you can see, Alli has a lot on her plate. She recognised she wasn’t getting the social media traction she wanted, and quite frankly didn’t have the time to get to understand it better and put in the consistent efforts needed to grow the Custom Cookie social media presence. So she approached me for help, and it’s great fun being on the Custom Cookie team.

Theo Paphitis and Small Business Sunday #SBS
CCCSBSEvery Sunday evening, businessman Theo Paphitis invites small businesses to send him a tweet introducing their business. They must use the hashtag #SBS and may attach a photo or a link to their website.

The thousand or so entries are reviewed over the next 24 hours, and on Monday evening Theo retweets his 6 favourites to his 370,000 followers.

As part of their team, I enter all my Twitter clients who have a unique small business. I have been entering Custom Cookie Co since Easter, and on Sunday 30 June 2013, this was our entry.

I had suggested to Alli, that the best way to demonstrate what she does, is to make a box of cookies, customised to Theo’s interests, just as she might for a client. Not to send, just to demonstrate… we wouldn’t want to be accused of bribery!

So Alli applied her considerable talents to making and icing a pen and pad to represent Ryman, the sponsor of #SBS, and where Theo is Chairman. She also included a sports car to represent his other business interests in Red Letter Days, a basque to represent Boux Avenue, and a wooden spoon for Robert Dyas. And of course there was gingerbread man Theo too!

Theo Paphitis #SBSI attached a picture of Theo’s cookie box to the entry and bingo, back came the retweet and then the deluge of congratulatory tweets and new followers began.

They came in so thick and fast that I spent the whole evening and most of the next day on the account, thanking people for their kindness!

So, number one objective for Custom Cookie Co’s social media was achieved…. increased social media exposure for their business and lots of new Twitter followers to chat with and show what they do. We also had a flurry of new Facebook ‘likes’ too.

I have no doubt this #SBS win will filter down into increased orders and add to Alli’s previous TV* and print media successes.

Alli has been very generous with her feedback since I started running her Twitter and Facebook account in March, and acknowledges the difference this has made, with a significant increase in orders, and much more activity and engagement with customers on her accounts.
